Usually when I’m driving or walking, I get very lost in thought and focused on what’s directly in front of me. But yesterday as I was driving south on I-35 coming out of the downtown loop, a very simple billboard managed to capture my attention.
It said: “Economics 101: Recessions End.”
How is that for some succint messaging? I don’t know whether it was intended for consumers or businesses or both, but a powerful message screamed at me through that minimal wording:
There’s a future out there where we’ll once again enjoy favorable economic conditions – and, as a business owner, what have I done to position my business for tomorrow’s opportunities?
How does your business look coming out of this nasty economic downturn? Are you poised to take advantage of the end of the recession? Positioned to grab some additional market share? Are you running a tighter, leaner business across the board – with people, processes and procedures?
It’s been easy to march through the last year fixated on the recession and focused on survival. But we have to remember that like everything else, recessions do end, and if we haven’t started thinking about and planning for life after the recession, we may miss out on a lot of opportunity.
